Membership Meeting – Sunday, February 2, 12:00 pm following the morning service. Whyte Ridge Baptist Church will hold our next Membership Meeting on February 2, 2025, immediately following the morning service. The primary focus of this meeting will be the 2024 Annual Report. A meeting agenda and copies of all relevant documents are available at the Welcome Centre or by contacting the church office.  

Men’s Breakfast – THIS Saturday, Jan 25, 9-11 am. Walk-ins welcome to join. Guest Speaker: Pastor Bruce Hollins . Cost is $10. Contact doug@whyteridgebaptist.ca  for more information.

February Connection Events

Women at Whyte Ridge Brunch – NEXT Sat, February 1, 11-1:00 pm. Cost $10. Guest speaker: Holly Kroeker. Join us for a time of fellowship as we share a meal together and get to know each other better.

Rosewood Service, Thursday, Feb 6.  Anyone who loves to sing is invited to join this vocal  ensemble the first Thursday of every month at 9:30 am at Rosewood Retirement Home. Hey Parents – this registration form is for all children attending our programs in Nursery up to Grade 6.  This information is required to be filled out each year for each child to make sure we have updated allergies, permissions, and consent for your child. Please complete this form if you have not done so already.

Our Question this week is: “Is there an in-between between Heaven and Hell?” It’s a great question and challenging to think about. Where do we end up after this life is over? Can’t wait to dig into the Bible with you on this topic!

Thank You from Our Missionaries:

Far Corners Ministry:  On behalf of Far Corners Ministry we want to say a very big “Thank You” for the very generous Christmas offering we received from the Whyte Ridge church family.  These funds cover the cost of helping children of needy pastors to have access to a better quality education that they would receive otherwise.  In some cases they are able to attend better schools and in other places where that is not an option, the children can get extra tutoring.  This results in children having the tools to complete their schooling and be able to pursue higher education.  So thanks once again for partnering with us and supporting this aspect of ministry in northeast India that is making a real difference in young lives! – In His service, Shant & Ginny Manuel

Kids at the Ridge Request – Trust Package Donations Needed!

On Sunday, January 19th, as part of our lesson on trusting God (and the Israelites wandering the desert), our kids will be making a “Trust Package” containing a few basic needs for someone who needs encouragement!  They will also write a note of encouragement (or draw a picture) to put in their bags and let them know that God loves them. They can take this package home and decide who they would like to give it to.

In order to do this activity with the kids, we are looking for some items to add to our packages!   Here are some ideas of what we need (must fit in a medium ziplock bag): band-aids, small sanitizer bottles, individual kleenex packages, gum, mentos, travel size shampoos or other toiletries etc.   Please drop off any items you can donate this Sunday or by next Sunday morning for us to use for our Trust Packages on January 19th!

January 10th – Skating Night at the Forks

This Friday we will be meeting at The Forks for some Ice Skating on the River, so bring your skates, dress up cozy, and come to do some communal skating on the river. We will meet at the “Forks Market Plaza and Canopy” (google this if you’re not sure how to get there). We will be in that space from 6:30pm to 830pm! Make note of the times and let your rides know!

Growing In Grace Legal Learning Month – Thursday, January 9, 2025, 12 pm – 2 pm.  Register by January 5: Growing In Grace Registration.  Join us for our January get-together when we have Hannah Humphries (lawyer) come and share with us a legal point of view dealing with power of attorney, wills, health directives and other legal issues. Breakfast at noon is on the menu. Pre-registration and pre-payment of $10 is required.

Precept Ministries Bible Study – January 8 – 29, 2025. Registration required for Precept Upon Precept in-depth study or In & Out (less homework). Register: Precepts Registration.  The study of Ecclesiastes – Life Under the Sun explores the meaning of life under the sun and its relationship to eternity and God. Life on earth is short and this study of Ecclesiastes will direct you to carefully consider how God refers to life today.

WRBC 101 Orientation Class – Saturday, January 18, 1-2:30 pm, Common Office Area – You are welcome to attend an afternoon of information about Whyte Ridge Baptist Church.  Whether you are a new to this church or a long-time attender, this is a good opportunity to learn more about who we are, what we believe, how we operate and ways you can serve.  For those interested in formal church membership, this seminar is also part of that process. Missions Update: Katy Mesics, YFC Winnipeg

“The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light” – Isaiah 9:2

Dear Friends and Family,

Most of you know the location of the YFC building in downtown Winnipeg; 333 King Street, on the corner of Main Street and Higgins Avenue. This is arguably one of the darkest areas of the city. Although it is true that there are disadvantages to being located here, I always find myself coming back to the image of our building being a lighthouse, a beacon of hope, in the darkness that surrounds us. 

There are so many beautiful ways that the image of light in darkness is portrayed throughout the scriptures – from the beginning “let there be light” (Genesis 1:1) to the prophecy of Jesus’ birth as a light coming into the world (Isaiah 9:2), and Jesus himself declaring us the light of the world (Matthew 5:14).

I am so thankful for this season in which we get to celebrate the coming of Jesus – the light of the world – and as we receive him, preparing him room in our hearts that we also get to be part of bringing light into a dark world!

As I reflect on the ministry of Turning Point Counselling and YFC and my ability to serve as the Ministry Director, I of course think of all you who have and continue to contribute to me being here, whether through finances, encouragement or prayer. Thank you from me, and thank you on behalf of all the youth, families, staff and volunteers that I have the privilege of serving! I see the impact of your partnership in hope being restored, lives being saved, and healing being received. God’s literal light coming into the dark places of people’s lives.

It is truly a gift for me to serve in this way, and my prayer is that you will also experience this gift as you partner with me.

Have a Merry Christmas and may Jesus continue to light your way,

Fundraising Update

God has been so faithful throughout this fundraising season that I have been in; He has provided both physically and spiritually, truly sustaining me every step of the way. In the New Year it will be time to adjust my work hours according to how much financial support is in place to sustain it. I am currently at 50% of my goal, or 16 hours/week, but I would love to work as close to 32 hours/week as possible.

If you have been considering giving or perhaps have been waiting for the year-end, I would humbly ask that you would take that step of obedience and faith. Together we can continue to serve the youth of our city, inhabiting the darkness with His great Light!

Merry Christmas from Kids at the Ridge!

Merry Christmas to our Kids at the Ridge Families!

School is out and Christmas Day is near.  There is so much joy and excitement in the air. It’s easy to get lost in the busyness of Christmas – the extra activities and celebrations, the Christmas baking and decorations too.  I encourage you, if you haven’t already, to take some time out to sit with your family around your Christmas tree and read Luke 2:1-21.  Many of our kids have heard the story multiple times and we even told the story again at our Kids Christmas Program last week! (They did an amazing job!).  But if you take a look at verse 19 where it says “But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart”, I wonder if that can help us to pause and reflect on our own as well.  I encourage you to ask your kids what kinds of things Mary might have been thinking about and what part of this story might be on their heart this Christmas too. What are you pondering in the days ahead?

I pray that this Christmas will be filled with meaningful time together with your families as you celebrate the birth of our Savior.

To help you and your kids create meaningful and fun memories together over the Christmas break, I have a new Kids Christmas BINGO sheet available!  This game is filled with activity ideas and service ideas for your child or for your family to complete.

Christmas @ The Ridge

Kids at the Ridge Christmas Program is this Sunday, December 15 during the morning service – come and celebrate with our children! Visiting children are welcome to join our Children’s Ministry programming following the Christmas program. Full dress rehearsal will be THIS Saturday, Dec 14 at 10 am to prepare for the program.  Contact Sheilla if you need more information.

Free Family Christmas Photos will be available to everyone in the church main foyer for the next 2 Sundays, December 15 & 22 before and after the service. Contributions to our Christmas Food Hampers encouraged.

Plan to join us for our Christmas Eve Service at 5 pm December 24.

We will be having our “Ladies Ensemble” performing for us and we will join them in a few carols. Turkey dinner is on the menu and we will follow it up with our favorite gift exchange game.

WRBC Foodbank Christmas Hampers – Our WRBC Foodbank is collecting Christmas Hampers to give to the 120 families (30 families each week) who visit our foodbank. Ways to give at Whyte Ridge Baptist Church:  For those who are looking for a way to give to the mission of Whyte Ridge Baptist Church, options can be found at  whyteridgebaptist.ca/GIVE.  

To electronically transfer funds to WRBC please use the email: give@whyteridgebaptist.ca. No password required. Include in the message portion of your e-transfer the following information:

• Full name and address of the person to be receipted.
• Your preferred Fund: General Fund, Capital Asset Fund, Missions Trips Fund or Benevolent Fund.  If desiring more than one Fund please include dollar amount for each.  In the event that no Fund is chosen the full amount will go into the General Fund.

Hey All!!!

Super Excited for this week’s Small Group Night!!! Hope you’re all ready for some great times within your Small groups.

This week we will not meet at the church, but rather the small groups will be meeting in different spaces so be aware of that.

• Jr. Boys: Playing Crash Bandicoot Racing at Rudy’s House (7-9pm)
• Jr. Girls: PJ Party at Emma’s House (7-9pm)
• Sr. Girls: Paint Night at Christina’s House (7-9pm)
• Sr. Boys: Hang Out at Michael’s House (7-930pm)
