Worship By The Lake: A Celebration of God’s Faithfulness – A Reflection by Pastor Kevin Klassen

I first came to Whyte Ridge Baptist Church 21 years ago.  Not really because I wanted to.  And certainly not because I was very interested in finding a church home.  I recall that I visited this church reluctantly, coming here together with someone who had other friends who attended here.  And then I basically never left.

WRBC very quickly became my church family and, ever since then, God has used my time at this church to change my life in some very significant ways.  First of all, it is here that I met my beautiful wife (on the worship team, no less).  And it is also here that I have found and enjoyed many life-giving friendships.  And even deeper than that, God has used the teachings, the relationships, the joys, the challenges and the experiences that I have had in the context of this church family to change me on the inside.  He has used my time in this church to mercifully convict me and lovingly shape me, teaching me about His Word, His grace and His sufficiency.

And in recent years, God has granted me the profound joy of serving as a pastor of worship and care – ministering within the very family that has loved me and walked with me throughout almost all of my adult life.  God is so very, very good!

Because of this history, there are plenty of personal stories that I could tell about God’s faithfulness to us and through us as a church family.  And I know that there are many others who could do the same, whether they have attended for a long time or a short time.

And this coming weekend, September 10th and 11th, we are going to be gathering at our church property on McGillivray Boulevard to Celebrate the Faithfulness of God!  It will be a fun weekend of worship, fellowship and prayer – remembering the stories of God’s faithfulness in the past and asking and thanking Him for His continued faithfulness in the future.

We will be especially be remembering the gift and the purpose of the land that God has given us on McGillivray.  In fact, this weekend will serve as a celebratory kickoff to a Capital Funds Campaign that we expect will move us forward toward the construction of a new church building that God will use to continue to faithfully build His kingdom in and through us.

Worship By The Lake:

On Saturday evening at 7 pm, we’ll have an outdoor celebration that will include much praise and prayer as well as stories that celebrate the Lord and His loving kindness.   Following that will be a bonfire and fireworks.  A few of us are also camping there overnight and you’re welcome to join us (and there are portapotties there, in case that’s a deal-breaker).

372A6430

Sunday morning we’ll continue our celebration with an outdoor worship service at 10 am, followed by a BBQ lunch.

372A6452

Everyone is welcome!!!  Bring your friends, bring your lawn chairs, bring your mosquito repellent and bring hearts that are ready to worship the Lord.   Prepare your own heart by reflecting upon your own story of how you have seen God’s faithfulness to you and to this church family.  And let us come before Him with thanksgiving and also with anticipation of how He may use this land and building in the discipleship, worship and witness of His church.

For just as we each have personal stories to tell of God’s work in and around us during our time at WRBC, I believe His faithfulness is most greatly reflected in the way that He chooses to include us in the Great Story that He is writing in the building of His Kingdom for His glory.  God is so very, very good!

My God Story – Rui Pan

Hi Whyte Ridge church family, my name is Rui Pan.

My husband and I have been attending this church since last December. I really like the different group events that happen at the church. I enjoyed the women’s study this February in the winter. It helped me to know Christ in more specific ways and build the relationship with the church family.

As a new believer, I always wonder about how ministries are working out. Three of my closest friends they have been served God in China, Russia and Albania for years. I was so curious how they can have such strong faith to do God’s work in other counties for years. As their influence, I also want to have the same faith as them to sever God and help other people. From my last job, I was struggling that I don’t have the basic respect from the owner. I was praying to have a respectful, grateful and loving working environment. God answer my prayer by inviting me as one of the summer missionaries at Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) to teach 5-day Clubs for 6 weeks.

CEF sends out trained and fully equipped high school and college-age youth (Christian Youth in Action – CYIA) who are dispatched in teams of two to lead Clubs in communities across the province. I was able to partner with some other young missionaries to teach children ages 5-12 at 5-Day clubs around Manitoba.

Pan

All Summer Missionaries are young people that are supported by CEF, friends and family who become part of their ministry to the children through prayers and financial support.

Rui Pan 2

Little children between the ages of 5 and 12 can attend 5-Day Clubs for free, for a week of Bible lessons and memory verses, songs, fun games and mission stories.

Rui Pan 3

5-Day Clubs will take place from July 3 till August 19th 2016. The first week in July will be spent in training with other missionaries.

Rui Pan 4

Many of the little children attending Clubs do not know who Jesus is or how to have a relationship with God. I am excited that I can be a part of bringing the Gospel to them and our prayer is that many little children will come to know Christ this summer.

Becoming a missionary not only helped me to build my faith stronger but also taught me the importance of bringing the gospel to children. That is the reason I joined CEF and 5-Day club ministry this summer.

Ladies Retreat Yard Sale – May 7, 2016

To ALL the ladies of Whyte Ridge Baptist Church,

Can you believe it is almost time to start thinking about our annual Ladies Retreat. We, the committee, are very excited about our time together, coming up in October. Listen for details on date, place and other information coming soon.

We really want to keep costs down this year so we have decided to have a “Yard Sale” in the church parking lot, May 7, 2016.  Not only will we be selling gently used items, but there will be baking and BBQ lunch with drinks.

Also, we will have tables for rent if anyone is interested in selling their own things. The cost per table will be $25.00. We would love to have you join us. The more the merrier.

So, if any of you have gently used items in your home that you want to be rid of and don’t know what to do with, please consider donating them to our sale. We would also appreciate some baking, if you are willing.

If you have any questions regarding the sale, or have donations for us, please call or text me at 204-799-9884.

WRBC Financial Support for Christian Camp Workers

Our purpose as a church is to Nurture Followers of Jesus Christ through Healthy Relationships. The ministry that occurs at Christian camps each year is invaluable to living out that purpose with our children and youth. Serving as staff, many adults in our church family mature through their service at camp as well.

With that in mind, as a church family we want to encourage people to consider investing themselves in others by taking a portion of their summer to serve with a Christian Camp by offering a Camp Support Scholarship (see requirements and application link below).

Of course, our first encouragement is for people to join the summer staff at Camp Nutimik which is one of our Manitoba Baptist Association camps (the other being Wellman Lake Bible Camp). If this is of interest to you information about becoming a summer staff member can be found at http://www.campnutimik.com/get_involved.html .

If you’d like to talk with someone to discuss your plans in regards to being a summer camp staff, please feel free to call our church office (489-3875) or approach any of our WRBC staff.

Worship and Prayer Evening, April 24th @ 6:00 pm

Worship and Prayer EveningThe Prayer Committee for the Building Program is pleased to invite the congregation to an evening of prayer and song in support of the building project. Working with the pastors we want to provide our community with the opportunity to come together before God to ask for His guidance in this work.

Please join us April 24th at 6pm at WRBC and bring the kids! This will be a unique chance to celebrate all that God has done and all that we anticipate He will do for our church and community through this endeavor.

Our church community needs you to actively engage in prayer for this effort. Come prepared to pray for the physical building being proposed, the financial considerations attached to this incredible undertaking and for us as a community that we might be of one mind and spirit as we move forward.

Blessings!

Tim Hague, on behalf of the Prayer Committee

‘IN GOD’S SERVICE’ is looking for volunteers!

In God's Service - Meadowood

‘IN GOD’S SERVICE’ is a team of people who provide the legs for banquets at Meadowood Manor – to allow the guests to be served at their tables, our job is to carry the prepared plates from the kitchen to the individual guests.

There are three banquets a year: April, May and December. The dinner traditionally begins at 6:30 p.m. Servers are encouraged to be on site no later than 6 p.m. Depending on the number of guests, the entertainment and speeches, the evening lasts from 3 – 4 hours.

Normally, we serve appetizer, main course, dessert and beverages. Once these tasks are done, we sit and enjoy our free meal in the EPC dining room and visit amongst ourselves until the banquet is complete and we can clear the tables.

The ‘IN GOD’S SERVICE’ team usually numbers between 6 – 10 people. Presently we are seeking additional volunteers so that we can be certain of the availability of sufficient numbers to provide this gift of service to those who live in and/or support the work of Meadowood Manor.

The team wears black pants or skirt and a white shirt. We have aprons available to protect our clothing.

We would love to have you join our team. If you are interested, contact Rhea Jenkinson (pictured below) at 204-269-8840 or by email rmj23@shaw.ca

FOCUS ON THE FAMILY / PLUGGED IN Review – http://www.pluggedin.ca/movie-reviews/war-room/

War is as old as human history, an aged widow named Miss Clara narrates in the opening moments of War Room. “We fight for power. We fight for riches. We fight for rights. We fight for freedom,” she says. “There always seems to be something to fight about.”

That’s as true for individuals as it is for countries. Yet despite the reality of relational conflict, Clara observes, “Very few of us know how to fight the right way.” We fight each other instead of recognizing our common spiritual enemy, she says, the thief who comes “to steal, kill and destroy.” If we hope to thwart Satan’s schemes, to counter his cunning strategies to divide us, we’ll need a beefy battle strategy. A strategy that can come from only one place: time spent asking for God’s guidance in our prayer closet.

Or, as Miss Clara calls it, her “war room.”

Elizabeth Jordan doesn’t know anything about such secret spiritual places. Oh, this successful real estate agent, wife and mother is a Christian. But tending to the details of her life is all-consuming for her right now. Especially when one of those details involves her deteriorating relationship with her husband, Tony.

Tony’s a star sales rep for a pharmaceutical company, a natural born talker whose megawatt smile has magnetic appeal. He pulls in four times as much money as Elizabeth does—a fact he’s quick to remind her of when she tries to give her sister some of it. Tony, you see, has no interest in helping people who are hardly working when he’s working so hard.

Tony doesn’t have much interest in his wife, either.

And caught in the middle of this troubled couple’s conflict is 10-year-old daughter Danielle, who longs for her parents’ love and attention … and longs for them to stop yelling at each other.

Reenter Clara. Elizabeth’s path crosses Clara’s when the older woman needs a real estate agent. And while Elizabeth’s trying to get the info she needs to sell her house, Clara can’t quit showing her she cares about more than just business. Soon a friendship is born, one in which an older woman begins to disciple a younger one about fighting the right way against theright enemy in the right place.

In the war room.

Making Use of Scripture Studies for the Gospel of John – Spring & Summer 2016

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God,  a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed,  correctly teaching the word of truth. – 2 Timothy 2:15 (HCSB)

As a church family, we desire to grow in the whole counsel of God believing that “[all] Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Tim 3:16-17).

Along with our commitment to expository preaching that is based on working through books of the Bible we provide Scripture Studies that focus primarily on deepening our understanding of the Scripture passage on which the Sunday morning message is based.

While Scripture Studies (SS) and the Sermon Focus aim to be similar, the objective of our Scripture Studies is to lead you through the Gospel of John chapter by chapter whereas the Sermon focus deals with various themes found in John.

Our hope is that their use will increase both attentiveness and note-taking during the Sunday morning messages, as people know that they will be revisiting the Scripture passage that week in their own personal study and potentially in discussion with their LifeGroup and/or other significant relationships.

Scripture Studies for the Gospel of John (Spring & Summer 2016) can be found free online at https://whyteridgebaptist.ca or can be bought at cost from our information centre ($3 – notes only; $5 with binder)

Included in our Scripture Studies for the Gospel of John are three separate documents that have been given the following headings:

Notes

Designed as the primary resource in the Scripture Studies, this document contains the following elements:

  • Portions of the Scripture passage to be studied from the Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB).
  • Notes from:
    • the HCSB Study Bible
    • the Apologetics Study Bible,
    • and the New Living Translation (NLT) Life Application Bible

Commentary

This document is for those who desire a more in-depth study of the passage.  It contains information from the New American Commentary and represents the finest in contemporary evangelical scholarship. The scholars used the New International Version as the standard in their translation.

**Scripture divisions used in our series and the NAC differ from each other. This is the reason for the occasional discrepancy between the verse range listed in our series and the commentary notes provided in our Scripture Studies.

Questions

This document contains numerous discussion questions created by the developers of the best-selling Life Application Bible and are designed to support a natural teaching flow: Open it, Explore It, Get It, and Apply It.

Use these questions to stimulate your study of the Scripture passage – but do not aim to work through them all. Skim the questions and make use of the ones that resonate with you the most. If you have only a brief time to spend in this document, take special note of the questions that are highlighted with an “*”.

If you’re part of a LifeGroup, we suggest that you contribute to the discussion by coming prepared with one or two questions for your members to discuss. Feel free to create your own questions – in fact, that is preferable.

**Scripture divisions used in our series and the resource we use for questions differ from each other.  For this reason, the questions given for each week may vary slightly from the range of verses used in our sermon series

2016 WRBC Mission Trips – Update

Our first team will be going to Garden Hill, MB, from July 31 to August 6 with Pathway Camp Ministries (PCM) to provide 5 days of VBS style ministry with the elementary age children in Garden Hill. Our hope is to send a team of 9 people (one person serving as head cook), plus their team leader, on this mission. The cost per person is $750 and we plan to raise $350 for each team member to reduce their costs – for a total of $3,150. The remaining amount ($400) team members will either pay themselves or raise through sending out personal support letters (we will provide them with a WRBC Donation Form to include with their letter). Tax receipts will be given for this purpose.

Our second team will being going to North East India and/or Nepal from November 10 to 26 with Far Corners Ministries (FCM) to provide training sessions for pastors, conferences for women, help in building a church, and serving those in desperate need. We plan to send a team of 4-5 people, plus their team leader, on this mission. The cost per person is $3,500 and we plan to raise $1,000 for each team member to reduce their costs – for a total of $5,000. The remaining amount ($2,500) team members will either pay themselves or raise through sending out personal support letters (we will provide them with a WRBC Donation Form to include with their letter). Tax receipts will also be given for this purpose.
