Free Church Family Christmas Photos – This will be the last Sunday for you to have your picture taken in the main foyer before and after the service. All are welcome and encouraged to participate. Contributions to our Christmas Food Hampers encouraged.

Plan to join us for our Christmas Eve Service at 5 pm December 24.

Year End Giving 

• The deadline for donations for 2024 tax receipting is December 31, 2024.
• All cheques must be dated no later than December 31, 2024.
• Donations may be dropped off at the church by noon on Sunday, December 29.
• Electronic giving options must be exercised by midnight December 31, 2024.

WRBC Christmas Offering—We exceeded our goal of $2400 and received $5,963.30 towards our Special Christmas Offering. Our gift to support Far Corners Ministry will provide education for twelve pastors’ children in India. The over and above donations will go into our general fund to help us make our 2024 commitments. Praise for this generous offering!

Digital Christmas Cards for our Missionaries are available now for signing until December 24 at midnight! WRBC Foodbank Christmas Hampers – our church family, ministries, and outside groups have donated generously to our Food Bank and Christmas Hampers this season! We are thankful that all the families have received hampers in the last two weeks and we have 42 more hampers prepared for the next two weeks.  Our Food Bank team will be preparing some extra hampers but still need some specific items if you would like to contribute – canned fruits, canned tomatoes, rice and treats. We appreciate everyone who participated and the many volunteers who have prepared the hampers each week. 

Share Christmas with a mom supported by Family Support Centre by dropping off formula or other baby items to the church. Contact the church office for more information.

Mark Your Calendar for these New Year Events

Growing In Grace Legal Learning Month – Thursday, January 9, 2025, 12 pm – 2 pm.  Join us for our January get-together when we have Hannah Humphries (lawyer) come and share with us a legal point of view dealing with power of attorney, wills, health directives and other legal issues. Breakfast at noon is on the menu. Pre-registration and pre-payment of $10 is required. Register by January 5: Growing In Grace Registration.

Precept Ministries Bible Study – January 8 – 29, 2025. Registration required for Precept Upon Precept in-depth study or In & Out (less homework). Register: Precepts Registration.  The study of Ecclesiastes – Life Under the Sun explores the meaning of life under the sun and its relationship to eternity and God. Life on earth is short and this study of Ecclesiastes will direct you to carefully consider how God refers to life today.

Please consider helping moms in need and drop off your items at the church in the blue bin by the mail slots.

Formula is always needed if you are able to donate (most requested brands – Enfamil, Similac & Good Start).

Hey Parents – this registration form is for all children attending our programs in Nursery up to Grade 6.  This information is required to be filled out each year for each child to make sure we have updated allergies, permissions, and consent for your child. It also helps us determine class sizes for the new year. Please complete this form if you have not done so already.

Kids at the Ridge Christmas Program is this Sunday, December 15 during the morning service – come and celebrate with our children! Visiting children are welcome to join our Children’s Ministry programming following the Christmas program. Full dress rehearsal will be THIS Saturday, Dec 14 at 10 am to prepare for the program.  Contact Sheilla if you need more information.

Christmas Dessert and Variety Night begins at 7:30pm in the auditorium. Please check in at the front auditorium entrance. 

Call the office 204-489-3875 by 2 pm Friday if you have not reserved your spot yet. We have a few more openings.

Celebrate the Birth of Jesus with us NEXT Thursday, Dec 12, 12-2 pm!

We will be having our “Ladies Ensemble” performing for us and we will join them in a few carols. Turkey dinner is on the menu and we will follow it up with our favorite gift exchange game.

Please remember to bring a $15 gift – Mark your gift male/female/either.

Join the Gingerbread Bash Team! This is a great opportunity to serve our families during the Christmas season and get to know some new people. Our Gingerbread Team needs people to prepare supplies, make icing, set up, take down and be involved during the event on Saturday, December 7.  Contact Sheilla or sign up HERE.

Family Support Centre is in need of Newborn(0-3 month) sleepers, baby shampoo/soap and diaper cream to go in the Baby Layettes given to the moms.

Please consider helping moms in need and drop off your items at the church in the blue bin by the mail slots.

Formula is always needed if you are able to donate (most requested brands – Enfamil, Similac & Good Start).

Front Desk Volunteer – this position has not been filled but will remain open. Contact Debbie at the church office if you are interested in exploring this casual office volunteer position.  We  are looking for a friendly person to cover the church office reception desk during staff meetings on Wednesdays. This volunteer position will support the ministry of the church while the church staff meet every other week on Wednesdays. Responsibilities will mainly be to greet people who come to the desk and help them with their questions or needs. This volunteer position will also include handling phone calls and taking messages. Pick up a Ministry Description and application form at the Welcome Centre, church office or by emailing volunteer@whyteridgebaptist,ca.

Search Team Update – The job opportunity for our Lead Pastor has been posted since late summer, and we have received a few applications, however none of the applicants so far have met the standards we are looking for. Volunteer Opportunity

Front Desk Volunteer: We  are looking for a friendly person to cover the church office reception desk during staff meetings on Wednesdays. This volunteer position will support the ministry of the church while the church staff meet every other week on Wednesdays. Responsibilities will mainly be to greet people who come to the desk and help them with their questions or needs. This volunteer position will also include handling phone calls and taking messages. Message from the Front Desk:  Have you ever walked into the church and smelled something delicious baking? In my new position at the front desk, I have the wonderful privilege of enjoying all the yummy smells coming out of the kitchen on a regular basis (once in a while I even get a free taste!) If you haven’t noticed yet that we have an Awesome Kitchen Team here at WRBC, please take note!  We have 44 people who are involved in our weekly Come To The Table ministry on Wednesday nights and many others who love to bake goodies and help prepare food in our kitchen for our many events around WRBC.  These dedicated volunteers spend time preparing the food on Tuesday or Wednesday and then serving it to our church family and guests on Wednesday nights. Great conversation happens around the table and friendships are formed and strengthened. If you haven’t experienced this yet, make sure to join us some Wednesday night. I just wanted to point out that we could not have this important ministry if we did not have such amazing volunteers. I hope you will take a minute to thank them, pray for them and encourage them in any way you can. If you are interested in becoming part of this awesome team, contact the church office or Pastor Doug.

Update from Lead Pastor Search Team 

The Lead Pastor Search Team continues to meet regularly to refine the next steps in the search process as we await the resume that matches our needs. We have had a few applicants, but none so far that warranted additional follow-up.  Please continue to pray for the person that God is preparing to send us as our next Lead Pastor, that they would see our job posting and be inspired to send us their resume. Pray for the Search Team, that we would receive God’s wisdom in evaluating each application as they are received, and to have the faith and patience to wait for the ONE whom we believe God is preparing for us.

Thank you for your patient perseverance as we pray through this journey together.

During this Giving Season consider how you can help meet the needs of others through our Food Bank Ministry.  

We have an amazing team of people who pick up food from Winnipeg Harvest on a weekly basis, come to the church to organize and distribute much needed food items to people in our community who have registered with Winnipeg Harvest.  “The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.” (Proverbs 22:9 – NIV)

Do you have a Piano Keyboard that needs a new home? The church is interested in getting another full sized (88 key)piano keyboard for church ministry. If you have one in good condition you would like to donate, please contact the church office.

The Lead Pastor Search Team continues to meet regularly to refine the next steps in the search process as we await the resume that matches our needs. We have had a few applicants, but none so far that warranted additional follow-up.  Please continue to pray for the person that God is preparing to send us as our next Lead Pastor, that they would see our job posting and be inspired to send us their resume. Pray for the Search Team, that we would receive God’s wisdom in evaluating each application as they are received, and to have the faith and patience to wait for the ONE whom we believe God is preparing for us.

Ministry Fair Update:  Thank you to everyone who participated in the Ministry Fair On Sept 15 & 22.  It was great seeing people connecting with one another and eager to serve within the various ministries of our church. We now have another Chair Team to prepare our worship space. Our maintenance team grew during that time and is led by Rene Gagnon. The “Crew” will be working on our building so it’s always ready to host the many ministry events that happen from week to week. It is exciting to see God’s people come together to serve one another and to glorify Jesus in all we do.

Update from Lead Pastor Search Team

Members of our Lead Pastor Search Team have enjoyed a more relaxed pace over the summer and we are all grateful for your ongoing prayer support. The job has been posted for over a month and we have received a few applications, none of which meet the expectations of the position. We continue to fervently pray that the ONE whom God is preparing will see our job posting and apply for the Lead Pastor position at our church.

We are extremely grateful to God for providing Pastor Bruce to lead us through this transition and this gives us increased patience and assurance that God will provide our next Lead Pastor in His timing.

The Search Team will continue to meet regularly to refine the next steps in the process: how to conduct reference checks, interviews and a candidacy weekend. We will also finalize the contents of the Congregation and Community Information package that will be provided to the eventual candidate who is selected for more detailed follow up. Please pray that we would be diligent in preparing for these next steps, even as we wait patiently to receive the application(s) which merit their implementation.

We desire that we all, as members and congregants of Whyte Ridge Baptist Church, would pray for the person that God is preparing to send us as our next Lead Pastor, that they would see our job posting and be inspired to send us their resume. Our job posting is available on our church website – if anyone knows of someone they believe would be qualified and a good fit for this position, please make them aware of it. We greatly value your patience and prayers as we wait on God’s timing and His provision in this regard.

Would you like to join the Office team, help people prepare for worship as an usher on Sundays or help keep our church building in top condition?  The list is HUGE and you will be able to explore these options in the days ahead. When you sign up for a FirstServe opportunity, you will be matched up with a volunteer in the area you are interested in so you can see first-hand what that role is all about. After trying it one time, you then decide if you want to continue the process to join that team or try something else!  Pick up a FirstServe card at our Ministry Fair on Sunday!

Hey Parents!  Our Kids at the Ridge Kick-off Sunday will be on Sunday, September 8^th  and we can’t wait to see you all back this year!  Children’s check-in opens up  to 15 minutes prior to the 10:30am service start time.  Parents are required to register their children each year to update their information and permissions. Register Now: Sept 2024 – Aug 2025 Child Registration Form

Annual Plan to Protect Refresher Training

It’s that time of year again!  If you are a current volunteer in our children’s or youth programming, please attend this annual Plan to Protect Refresher Training class.  We want to provide the safest possible environment for our kids and families but also for our leaders.

Please attend this class to keep your Plan to Protect certification active.

FirstServe opportunities –  Is there a position in the church you were wondering if you would like to serve? Would you like to join the Food Bank team, welcome people to our church on Sundays or help keep our church building in top condition?  The list is HUGE and you will be able to explore these options in the days ahead. When you sign up for a FirstServe opportunity, you will be matched up with a volunteer in the area you are interested in so you can see first-hand what that role is all about. After trying it one time, you then decide if you want to continue the process to join that team or try something else!  Pick up a FirstServe card at our Ministry Fair!

Update from Board of Church Governance: The Board of Church Governance would like to thank the following members of the Celebration Team for their dedication and perseverance:

Lorraine Barton (co-chair), Shirley Gagnon (co-chair), George Giesbrecht, Grettel Gonzalez, Matt Nobess, Sonya Sawatsky and Shirley Wynne. Their efforts culminated in an official recognition of Pastor Terry and Pat Janke’s lifetime of service, and specifically for their 15 years of ministry at Whyte Ridge Baptist Church. If you missed that service on Sunday, August 18, it is available through our website. This team was officially dismissed by the Board at the end of that service, with gratitude for the great job they had done in fulfilling their responsibilities. The Board would also like to express their appreciation to the many others who supported the Celebration Team and contributed to a wonderful retirement celebration.

Kids at the Ridge VBS SHARING & SLIDESHOW – THIS SUNDAY AT 10:30am

During the morning worship service, we want to share with our church family and parents the highlights of our week at VBS this summer. We will also teach you a couple of our favorite songs and share a slideshow of pictures from our VBS week too!    We had such a great week learning to be Space Rangers on a special mission for God’s glory!  We learned that God is FAITHFUL and gives us the courage to face the great unknown in our lives Every. Single. Day. We can’t wait to share some of our week with you on Sunday!

This service will NOT be livestreamed this Sunday. Please join us in person! 

FYI – We are still in Summer Programming mode for our Sunday services until our Kids Official Kick Off Sunday on September 8th.   
Our Nursery room is open for babies up to age 2 and we will also have our Preschool & Kindergarten classroom open for kids age 5 and under.  The Preschoolers will be dismissed to their classes AFTER our VBS Slideshow (Parents must accompany them to check-in).  Older kids will remain in the service with their parents. We have two Kids Craft Carts available at the entrance doors that are filled with coloring pages and an activity for the elementary kids!  We hope you’ll be able to join us!

Reserved Seating for Users of Translation Apps – the two front rows on west side of auditorium have been reserved for those using language translation devices during the service.

Update from Lead Pastor Search Team: The job opportunity has been posted and the Search Team has met to refine the evaluation process to be used to screen resumes. Please continue to pray that we would hear and follow God’s guidance and direction as we work through this process.

Please also pray for the person that God is preparing to send us as our next Lead Pastor, that they would see our job posting and be drawn to us. Give thanks to God that He has provided Pastor Bruce to give us leadership through this transition period, giving us peaceful reassurance that we can wait on God’s timing to provide His best for us.

Reserved Seating for Users of Translation Apps – the two front rows on west side of auditorium have been reserved for those using language translation devices during the service.

Update from Lead Pastor Search Team: The job opportunity has been posted and the Search Team will meet this coming week to refine the evaluation process to be used to screen resumes. Please continue to pray that we would hear and follow God’s guidance and direction as we work through this process.

Please also pray for the person that God is preparing to send us as our next Lead Pastor, that they would see our job posting and be drawn to us. Give thanks to God that He has provided Pastor Bruce to give us leadership through this transition period, giving us peaceful reassurance that we can wait on God’s timing to provide His best for us.

Pastor Alvin Harsch who served as pastor at Grant Park Baptist (before it became Whyte Ridge Baptist) from 1970-74 has recently passed away.   Read about his life here.  His memorial service will be livestreamed on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at 3 pm.

It will also be posted at selected Seminaries, Christian colleges and on a number of other Christian job search sites. Please continue to pray over this process as we seek to meet the person that God has been preparing to send us as our next Lead Pastor.

Please also pray for members of the Search Team as they enjoy a brief period of rest in anticipation of receiving applications to be evaluated later this summer and into the fall. Team members have put tremendous work into this process so far and much work remains to be done. Pray for perseverance and discernment in the next stage of the process.

Message from the Celebration Team:  You are invited to a Retirement Celebration for Pastor Terry Janke on Sunday, August 18, 2024.  The Retirement Celebration will be held during the Sunday morning service (10:30am).  Pastor Terry will be speaking.  Following the morning service there will be a reception in the foyer.  A light snack will be served.

Camp Nutimik WRBC Worship @ Camp Nutimik  THIS SUNDAY, July 7 , 11 am Camp Nutimik is a 2 hour drive from WRBC. Bring a Picnic Lunch & join the Campus Tours at 1 pm.

June 23-28 Update Camp Nutimik: Last week we had our first program out at camp! We had our Step Out group, the oldest of our leadership camps, start this week. For the first week of their 3-week program, this group tackled their canoe trip and first aid, and had a great first week together. They are seizing every opportunity to grow as a team, and to deepen their faith and knowledge of God! Nutimik-July-7-12-2024

This week, our Step Out program continues for its second week, and we have our Staff Training, when all of our summer staff are onsite to prepare for the summer!

Search Team Update: The Search Team has completed the draft Lead Pastor job description and forwarded it to the Board for their review and approval. Once the Board has approved the job description, a detailed job posting will be uploaded to select job posting sites. Please pray that this job description will accurately describe the type of Lead Pastor we need and that the job posting will draw in the man of God’s choosing to lead Whyte Ridge Baptist Church into the future that He has envisioned for us.

The Search Team are working on evaluation tools to assess candidates who apply for this position. They are also finalizing other work product, such as a community profile and congregation profile, that will be shared with selected candidates when we reach that stage of the process.

Thank you for your continued prayers: for wisdom and discernment within the Search Team, for an accurate job description to be posted, that the man of God’s choosing would be drawn to us, and that we would be patient in waiting for God’s timing in the provision of a new Lead Pastor.
