Membership Meeting, Sunday, December 1, 12:00 PM – Whyte Ridge Baptist Church will hold our next Membership Meeting on December 1, 2024, immediately following the morning service. This meeting will be held in-person, in our church building, and will include voting to welcome new members, elect new Board members and Deacons, and approve of the 2025 budget. Volunteer Connections

Join the Gingerbread Bash Team! This is a great opportunity to serve our families during the Christmas season and get to know some new people. Our Gingerbread Team needs people to prepare supplies, make icing, set up, take down and be involved during the event on Saturday, December 7.  Contact Sheilla or sign up HERE.

Front Desk Volunteer – this position has not been filled but will remain open. Contact Debbie at the church office if you are interested in exploring this casual office volunteer position.  We  are looking for a friendly person to cover the church office reception desk during staff meetings on Wednesdays. This volunteer position will support the ministry of the church while the church staff meet every other week on Wednesdays. Responsibilities will mainly be to greet people who come to the desk and help them with their questions or needs. This volunteer position will also include handling phone calls and taking messages. Pick up a Ministry Description and application form at the Welcome Centre, church office or by emailing volunteer@whyteridgebaptist,ca.

Search Team Update – The job opportunity for our Lead Pastor has been posted since late summer, and we have received a few applications, however none of the applicants so far have met the standards we are looking for. Please join us in praying for the man that God has already chosen to lead WRBC into the future. Pray that he would see the job posting and the Holy Spirit would nudge him to apply. Pray that God would prepare his heart and if appropriate, his family, for this opportunity. Pray for our staff and ministry leaders who are continuing the work God has for us at WRBC. And pray for us all as a church family, that together we would be united and patiently perseverant.

Message from the Front Desk:  Have you ever walked into the church and smelled something delicious baking? In my new position at the front desk, I have the wonderful privilege of enjoying all the yummy smells coming out of the kitchen on a regular basis (once in a while I even get a free taste!) If you haven’t noticed yet that we have an Awesome Kitchen Team here at WRBC, please take note!  We have 44 people who are involved in our weekly Come To The Table ministry on Wednesday nights and many others who love to bake goodies and help prepare food in our kitchen for our many events around WRBC.  These dedicated volunteers spend time preparing the food on Tuesday or Wednesday and then serving it to our church family and guests on Wednesday nights. Great conversation happens around the table and friendships are formed and strengthened. If you haven’t experienced this yet, make sure to join us some Wednesday night. I just wanted to point out that we could not have this important ministry if we did not have such amazing volunteers. I hope you will take a minute to thank them, pray for them and encourage them in any way you can. If you are interested in becoming part of this awesome team, contact the church office or Pastor Doug.

We have had a few applicants, but none so far that warranted additional follow-up.  Please continue to pray for the person that God is preparing to send us as our next Lead Pastor, that they would see our job posting and be inspired to send us their resume. Pray for the Search Team, that we would receive God’s wisdom in evaluating each application as they are received, and to have the faith and patience to wait for the ONE whom we believe God is preparing for us.

During this Giving Season consider how you can help meet the needs of others through our Food Bank Ministry.  

We have an amazing team of people who pick up food from Winnipeg Harvest on a weekly basis, come to the church to organize and distribute much needed food items to people in our community who have registered with Winnipeg Harvest.  “The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.” (Proverbs 22:9 – NIV)

Ministry Fair Update:  Thank you to everyone who participated in the Ministry Fair On Sept 15 & 22.  It was great seeing people connecting with one another and eager to serve within the various ministries of our church. We now have another Chair Team to prepare our worship space. Our maintenance team grew during that time and is led by Rene Gagnon. The “Crew” will be working on our building so it’s always ready to host the many ministry events that happen from week to week. It is exciting to see God’s people come together to serve one another and to glorify Jesus in all we do.

Update from Lead Pastor Search Team

Members of our Lead Pastor Search Team have enjoyed a more relaxed pace over the summer and we are all grateful for your ongoing prayer support. The job has been posted for over a month and we have received a few applications, none of which meet the expectations of the position. We continue to fervently pray that the ONE whom God is preparing will see our job posting and apply for the Lead Pastor position at our church.

We are extremely grateful to God for providing Pastor Bruce to lead us through this transition and this gives us increased patience and assurance that God will provide our next Lead Pastor in His timing.

The Search Team will continue to meet regularly to refine the next steps in the process: how to conduct reference checks, interviews and a candidacy weekend. We will also finalize the contents of the Congregation and Community Information package that will be provided to the eventual candidate who is selected for more detailed follow up. Please pray that we would be diligent in preparing for these next steps, even as we wait patiently to receive the application(s) which merit their implementation.

We desire that we all, as members and congregants of Whyte Ridge Baptist Church, would pray for the person that God is preparing to send us as our next Lead Pastor, that they would see our job posting and be inspired to send us their resume. Our job posting is available on our church website – if anyone knows of someone they believe would be qualified and a good fit for this position, please make them aware of it. We greatly value your patience and prayers as we wait on God’s timing and His provision in this regard.

Would you like to join the Office team, help people prepare for worship as an usher on Sundays or help keep our church building in top condition?  The list is HUGE and you will be able to explore these options in the days ahead. When you sign up for a FirstServe opportunity, you will be matched up with a volunteer in the area you are interested in so you can see first-hand what that role is all about. After trying it one time, you then decide if you want to continue the process to join that team or try something else!  Pick up a FirstServe card at our Ministry Fair on Sunday!

It’s that time of year again!  If you are a current volunteer in our children’s or youth programming, please attend this annual Plan to Protect Refresher Training class.  We want to provide the safest possible environment for our kids and families but also for our leaders. 

Please attend this class to keep your Plan to Protect certification active.

FirstServe opportunities –  Is there a position in the church you were wondering if you would like to serve? Would you like to join the Food Bank team, welcome people to our church on Sundays or help keep our church building in top condition?  The list is HUGE and you will be able to explore these options in the days ahead. When you sign up for a FirstServe opportunity, you will be matched up with a volunteer in the area you are interested in so you can see first-hand what that role is all about. After trying it one time, you then decide if you want to continue the process to join that team or try something else!  Pick up a FirstServe card at our Ministry Fair!

Update from Board of Church Governance: The Board of Church Governance would like to thank the following members of the Celebration Team for their dedication and perseverance:

Lorraine Barton (co-chair), Shirley Gagnon (co-chair), George Giesbrecht, Grettel Gonzalez, Matt Nobess, Sonya Sawatsky and Shirley Wynne. Their efforts culminated in an official recognition of Pastor Terry and Pat Janke’s lifetime of service, and specifically for their 15 years of ministry at Whyte Ridge Baptist Church. If you missed that service on Sunday, August 18, it is available through our website. This team was officially dismissed by the Board at the end of that service, with gratitude for the great job they had done in fulfilling their responsibilities. The Board would also like to express their appreciation to the many others who supported the Celebration Team and contributed to a wonderful retirement celebration.

Kids at the Ridge VBS SHARING & SLIDESHOW – THIS SUNDAY AT 10:30am

During the morning worship service, we want to share with our church family and parents the highlights of our week at VBS this summer. We will also teach you a couple of our favorite songs and share a slideshow of pictures from our VBS week too!    We had such a great week learning to be Space Rangers on a special mission for God’s glory!  We learned that God is FAITHFUL and gives us the courage to face the great unknown in our lives Every. Single. Day. We can’t wait to share some of our week with you on Sunday!  

This service will NOT be livestreamed this Sunday. Please join us in person! 

FYI – We are still in Summer Programming mode for our Sunday services until our Kids Official Kick Off Sunday on September 8th.   
Our Nursery room is open for babies up to age 2 and we will also have our Preschool & Kindergarten classroom open for kids age 5 and under.  The Preschoolers will be dismissed to their classes AFTER our VBS Slideshow (Parents must accompany them to check-in).  Older kids will remain in the service with their parents. We have two Kids Craft Carts available at the entrance doors that are filled with coloring pages and an activity for the elementary kids!  We hope you’ll be able to join us!

Update from Lead Pastor Search Team: The job opportunity has been posted and the Search Team has met to refine the evaluation process to be used to screen resumes. Please continue to pray that we would hear and follow God’s guidance and direction as we work through this process.

It will also be posted at selected Seminaries, Christian colleges and on a number of other Christian job search sites. Please continue to pray over this process as we seek to meet the person that God has been preparing to send us as our next Lead Pastor.

Please also pray for members of the Search Team as they enjoy a brief period of rest in anticipation of receiving applications to be evaluated later this summer and into the fall. Team members have put tremendous work into this process so far and much work remains to be done. Pray for perseverance and discernment in the next stage of the process.

Camp Nutimik WRBC Worship @ Camp Nutimik  THIS SUNDAY, July 7 , 11 am Camp Nutimik is a 2 hour drive from WRBC. Bring a Picnic Lunch & join the Campus Tours at 1 pm. 

June 23-28 Update Camp Nutimik: Last week we had our first program out at camp! We had our Step Out group, the oldest of our leadership camps, start this week. For the first week of their 3-week program, this group tackled their canoe trip and first aid, and had a great first week together. They are seizing every opportunity to grow as a team, and to deepen their faith and knowledge of God! Nutimik-July-7-12-2024

This week, our Step Out program continues for its second week, and we have our Staff Training, when all of our summer staff are onsite to prepare for the summer!

Search Team Update: The Search Team has completed the draft Lead Pastor job description and forwarded it to the Board for their review and approval. Once the Board has approved the job description, a detailed job posting will be uploaded to select job posting sites. Please pray that this job description will accurately describe the type of Lead Pastor we need and that the job posting will draw in the man of God’s choosing to lead Whyte Ridge Baptist Church into the future that He has envisioned for us.

The Search Team are working on evaluation tools to assess candidates who apply for this position. They are also finalizing other work product, such as a community profile and congregation profile, that will be shared with selected candidates when we reach that stage of the process.

Thank you for your continued prayers: for wisdom and discernment within the Search Team, for an accurate job description to be posted, that the man of God’s choosing would be drawn to us, and that we would be patient in waiting for God’s timing in the provision of a new Lead Pastor.

Summer Children’s Programming begins Sunday

Preschool and kindergarten children will sit with their parents and be dismissed for programming after the Children’s Message.

Grades 1-6 sit with their parents. Activity & coloring pages are available on the Kids’ Craft Carts in the auditorium.

 

Search Team Update: The Search Team has completed the draft Lead Pastor job description and forwarded it to the Board for their review and approval. Once the Board has approved the job description, a detailed job posting will be uploaded to select job posting sites. Please pray that this job description will accurately describe the type of Lead Pastor we need and that the job posting will draw in the man of God’s choosing to lead Whyte Ridge Baptist Church into the future that He has envisioned for us.

The Search Team are working on evaluation tools to assess candidates who apply for this position. They are also finalizing other work product, such as a community profile and congregation profile, that will be shared with selected candidates when we reach that stage of the process.

Thank you for your continued prayers: for wisdom and discernment within the Search Team, for an accurate job description to be posted, that the man of God’s choosing would be drawn to us, and that we would be patient in waiting for God’s timing in the provision of a new Lead Pastor.

2024 High School Grad Recognition – June 16 Please send a picture of your grad by June 13 to the church office along with the name of the high school and possible future plans.

Membership Meeting – June 2   A membership meeting will be held following the morning worship service on Sunday, June 2 at approximately 12 noon. The primary purpose of this meeting will be the presentation of externally reviewed financial statements for 2023. Retirement Celebration – A Retirement Celebration for Pastor Terry and Pat Janke will be held on Saturday, June 15 from 6:00-9:00pm.  Doors will open at 5:30.  A program will be held in the auditorium from 6:00-7:20.  A reception will follow with a light snack.

Update from Board of Church Governance and Lead Pastor Search Team

May 16, 2024

Search Team Update
The Search Team has conducted an initial review of the congregational survey results and been encouraged by what they have seen. There is a lot of information here and it is being compiled into a format that can be shared with the Board and Staff for further review. A summary of the results will then be shared with the congregation.

The Ministry Leaders Survey has been sent to selected leaders across all ministry areas, to be completed within the next week or two.

The Search Team has completed their exit interview with Pastor Terry and completed nearly all of the staff interviews.

The combined results of all these surveys and interviews will require some time to examine in detail, as we seek to gain the most complete understanding of our current situation and where we think God is leading us as a congregation.

Membership Meeting – June 2, 2024
A membership meeting will be held following the morning worship service on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at approximately 12 noon. The primary purpose of this meeting will be the presentation of externally reviewed financial statements for 2023. Further details, including a meeting agenda and copy of the financial statements will be provided via email in advance of the meeting.

You are invited to a Retirement Celebration for Pastor Terry and Pat Janke on Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 6:00-9:00pm.  Doors will open at 5:30.  A program will be held in the auditorium from 6:00-7:20.  A reception will follow with a light snack. 
The last date to purchase tickets is Sunday, June 9.  Tickets can be purchased through this live link:  Retirement Celebration for Pastor Terry and Pat Janke.
Tickets can also be purchased in person before and after the Sunday service on May 19, 26, June 2 and 9.  In person purchases can be done by cash or cheque (made out to Whyte Ridge Baptist Church).  You will receive an email confirmation for tickets purchased on-line. Tickets cost is $15.00 per person (11+), $5.00 per child age 5-10 (children 4 and under are free).
We are accepting donations towards a gift for Pastor Terry and Pat.  Donations can be made by e-transfer to Shirley Wynne at 204-781-9187 or in person before and after the Sunday service on May 19, 26, June 2 and 9.  Donations can be made by e-transfer, cash, or cheque (made out to Shirley Wynne). Church Family Picnic – June 23  All are welcome to join us after the morning worship service for a free BBQ picnic. Some family friendly games and activities will be available for all ages. Update from Board of Church Governance and Lead Pastor Search Team

May 9, 2024

Transitional Pastor

The combined results of the vote on the motion to call Bruce Hollins as our Transitional Pastor (both online and paper ballot votes) were 125 in favour and none opposed. Pastor Bruce is expected to join us on June 1.

Search Team Update

The results of the congregational survey are still being reviewed by the Search Team. The overall feedback was very positive and detailed results will soon be shared with the Board and Staff for further review. A summary of the results will then be shared with the congregation.

The Ministry Leaders Survey is being sent to selected leaders across all ministry areas. This will provide more focused feedback on the various ministries of our church, as well as a ministry leaders’ perspective on the overall spiritual health of our congregation.

Staff interviews are being conducted to ensure that their perspectives are fully considered as we enter this time of transition. The Search Team will also conduct a detailed exit interview with Pastor Terry.

The combined results of all these surveys and interviews will give us a more complete picture of our current situation and a clearer indication of where we think God is leading us as a congregation. It will therefore help us discern the type of Lead Pastor we need, the man who we believe that God is preparing for us. Thank you all for your participation and your prayers.

Retirement Celebration for Pastor Terry and Pat Janke – The Retirement Celebration for Pastor Terry and Pat originally scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2024 has a new date. The Retirement Celebration will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 6:00pm at Whyte Ridge Baptist Church.  The event will start with a program in the auditorium followed by a reception and light snack in the foyer. On May 15 you will receive an email with the link to tickets/registration and information about donations towards a gift.  It is important that those attending purchase a ticket so that we know how many people to plan for.

Life Transformation Ministry, in partnership with WRBC, has worked with newcomers from countries around the world who have chosen to settle in Winnipeg for two years.  Over many years, this ministry has also strived to advance God’s kingdom amongst the people of Cuba. On Tuesday May 14 at 7:00 p.m. Richard Salas will be sharing the good news of how God continues to work for His Glory in the communist nation of Cuba. He will also share some simple ways in which, locally, you can become part of this ministry. Please register by May 13, 2024. Membership Meeting – May 5, 2024

A membership meeting will be held following the morning worship service on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at approximately 12 noon. The sole purpose of this meeting will be the presentation of the motion to call Pastor Bruce Hollins as our Transitional Pastor. Following any discussion on this motion, voting will take place by paper ballot (for those in attendance) and electronic voting (for members who are not able to attend in person). As this is expected to be a very short meeting, we will not be providing lunch.

Please look back to previous weekly email updates (available on the church website) for information on the requirement for a Transitional Pastor and background information on Bruce Hollins. Any questions or concerns should be addressed to the moderator, Dave Barton (moderator@whyteridgebaptist.ca), in advance of this meeting.

Come to the Core: An evening of prayer in a time of transition – May 5, 2024 at 7 PM

Come to the Core is an equipping event for the everyone in our church family. Our next event is on May 5, starting at 7 PM in the main auditorium. It will be an evening of prayer and worship with a focus on the transition that we are entering into.
