Studying Job reveals what you and I really think about God.
I shared in my message yesterday about five ways of relating to God according to Skye Jethani’s recent book called “With: Reimagining the Way you Relate to God”. You might want to check out this link for a summary of what he teaches: http://millennialdreams.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
The key verse to unlocking Job’s meaning is found in Ch.1:9 where Satan says to God, “Does Job fear God for nothing?” (Do you think Job loves you just for YOU, or does he love you because you give him everything he needs!?). The answer to this question is the theme of the book of Job. It is the worth of God and the integrity of true faith that is at stake. Is God worthy of being loved and trusted simply for WHO He is, or is His worth and our faith contingent on how He treats us? It begs the question of whether our thoughts about God in good times REALLY reflect the substance of what we believe about Him.
Job’s conclusions in suffering are found in Ch. 1:21 and Ch. 2:10 and they will be among the ideas we look at in next sunday’s message.
